Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It is a progressive disease beginning with mild memory loss and possibly leading to loss of the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to the environment. Alzheimer's disease involves parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. Scientists still struggle to determine exactly what causes Alzheimer’s, but they have determined that age and genetics, such as family history, are big factors. This disease doesn’t have a cure as of now, but specialists and all sorts of start-ups and organizations are working hard to make one.
Currently, the Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research - but there are many more organizations that are working towards finding the cure. For example, a new promising treatment has come out that shows not only the stopped progression of Alzheimer’s but reversal of the effects of this disease. This drug is called TB006, and is made by a company called TrueBinding. Go to https://www.truebinding.com/ for more information.
There are many ways you can help this important issue, but the most accessible one is to donate money to an Alzheimer's organization. However, if you have more time on your hands or would like to help out more, volunteering at Alzheimer's facilities or encouraging others to donate/raising money are good ways to be more involved.
We are doing our best to help this issue by volunteering in-person, donating funds, and raising awareness.
